Journal Aim and Scope

journal.jpgThe International Journal of Kinesiology in Higher Education (IJKHE) is dedicated to advancing the field of Kinesiology through publishing manuscripts that shape the direction of the field. The overall mission is to provide a forum for those in the field to share new, introductory, or small-scale research in addition to best practices in leadership, administration, and teaching.  The IJKHE consists of peer reviewed manuscripts, with a special focus on presenting the work of early career professionals and graduate students.

The journal publishes work in the following areas of emphasis:

  • Best Practices in Leadership
    • Articles written by those in leadership positions, or about leadership work. 
  • Best Practices in Teaching
    • Articles involving best practices in college teaching in Kinesiology. 
  • Research
    • Original research articles that address new or existing lines of research pertinent to the field of Kinesiology
  • New Professionals
    • Articles written by newly hired professionals to aid others in their search for jobs or navigating the workplace
  • Public Affairs
    • Articles written for a public purpose, including position papers 
  • Graduate Student Submissions
    • Articles highlighting Masters’ Thesis or Doctoral Dissertation work

Submission of Manuscripts. Should be no more than 5500 words, inclusive of the abstract, tables, references, figure captions, footnotes, endnotes. (https://www.tandfonline.com/action/authorSubmission?show=instructions&journalCode=ukhe20&) All articles must be preceded by an abstract of no more than 250 words. Reference citations in the text must match those in the reference list and must be accurate as to dates of publication and spelling of author names. Footnotes must be kept to a minimum, both in number and length; they should not exceed 5 or 6 lines each. Authors also are encouraged to refer to past issues of the journal for specific examples of the style to be used for citations and references, as well as for various types of articles. Manuscripts must be carefully proofread before submission. Authors of manuscripts accepted for publication must transfer copyright to the National Association for Kinesiology in Higher Education (NAKHE).

Submitted manuscripts should be original work not previously published or simultaneously submitted to another journal. A blind review process is used to evaluate manuscripts; all manuscripts are read by two members of the IJKHE Editorial Board. The review process typically takes from 4 to 6 weeks. There are no page charges to contributors. All manuscript submissions must be submitted electronically via its ScholarOne Manuscripts portal located at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/IJKHE. ScholarOne Manuscripts allows for rapid submission of original and revised manuscripts, and facilitates the review process and internal communication between authors, editors, and reviewers via a web-based platform. References. All references and notes must conform to the style guidelines of the APA Publication Manual, 7th edition. Reference examples:

Illustrations. Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:
•    300 dpi or higher
•    Sized to fit on journal page
•    EPS, TIFF, PSD format only
•    Submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files

Color Reproduction. Color art will be reproduced in color in the online publication at no additional cost to the author. Color illustrations will also be considered for print publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in color art reproduction. Please note that color reprints can only be ordered if print reproduction costs are paid.

Print Rates: $900 for the first page of color; $450 per page for the next three pages of color. A custom quote be provided for articles with more than four pages of color. Art not supplied at a minimum of 300 dpi will not be considered for print.

Tables and Figures. Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should appear collectively at the end of the manuscript. They can also be included as separate files. A short descriptive titles should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identifies below. All units must be included. Figure should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed.
