Job Description / Duties
The Department of Health and Human Studies, at Elizabeth City State University invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track position as Assistant/Associate Professor in Kinesiology. The position will teach undergraduate courses in Kinesiology; engage in research and service to the department and university; and assist with advancing the Fitness and Wellness and Exercise Science related courses.
Qualifications / Required Skills
A Doctorate or ABD (PhD at time of employment) in kinesiology, or closely related discipline. Certifications are highly desired, including current CPR, First Aid and AED, and a Personal Training Certification. Preferred applicants will possess effective classroom management skills, a successful prior history of leading group exercise classes (with minimum of 2 years’ experience preferred).
Possess the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students.
Possess the knowledge and ability to apply effective instructional techniques in the classroom and in different classroom settings (weight room, aerobics room, basketball gym, strength and conditioning laboratory).
Possess the knowledge of current health and safety precautions for managing group workouts and reducing risk for individuals and the facility, and familiarity with appropriate regulations, including university, academic, administrative and operational procedures and requirements.
Possess the ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced, changing and noisy environment while exercising, giving instructions and delivering sound judgment at all times.
Possess a commitment to excellence in student learning and be able to promote students’ ability to succeed in a multicultural and global community.
Possess a commitment to research and university/community service.
Additional Information
A Doctorate degree is required.
