Job Description / Duties

This is a full-time (10 month appointment) benefits eligible position. The Wellness Instructor will lead the wellness arm of the MIT Physical Education and Wellness Program including but not limited to teaching, curriculum development, program management, and public relations. This position is directly responsible for creating and supporting the wellness arm which involves curriculum development, wellness micro lessons, student and instructor handbooks, health promotions, assessment as well as managing supplies and materials for the wellness program. The wellness curriculum will be interactive, meet the diverse needs of MIT students and be evidence based. Other key responsibilities include working collaboratively with other MIT wellness stakeholders such as Athletics, Recreation, Dining, Residential life, MindHandHeart, Community Wellness at MIT Medical, Mental Health, Student Support Services and Wellbeing, Emergency Management, Work Life Center, Religious Life, and Graduate and Undergraduate Students Associations.

Qualifications / Required Skills

A Bachelor's degree is required. A degree in in physical education, nutrition, health and wellness or closely related field required. A Master’s degree is preferred. One-three years teaching and administrative experience needed preferably at the college/university level. Familiarity with wellness issues relevant to the college age population. Excellent oral and written communication skills for collegiate audiences are essential. Demonstrated proficiency with curriculum development and health promotions including social media desired. Computer skills, including the use of word processing, basic movie editing, spread sheets, scheduling software and course management systems expected. Must be willing to learn, be a good team member and bring a creative energy to the position.

CPR/FA/AED certification must be obtained by August 2019. Appropriate certification in group fitness instruction is required if candidate doesn’t have a physical education degree. Certificate in nutrition and mindfulness or meditation needed within one year. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a background check.
