California State University, Fresno (Fresno State) seeks a visionary, innovative, and experienced academic leader committed to excellence in teaching, research, professional practice, and service as its next dean of the College of Health and Human Services.

Since its founding in 1911 as the Fresno State Normal School, the institution has evolved into the premier regional university serving Central California's diverse, growing community. Fresno State is one of 23 California State University (CSU) institutions. With an enrollment of more than 24,000 students, Fresno State offers 59 undergraduate degree programs and 44 master degree programs in the liberal arts and sciences as well as in a variety of professional disciplines emphasizing agriculture, business, engineering and technology, health and human services, and education. The campus is nearing conclusion of its 2016-2020 strategic plan, which implemented bold, focused strategies designed to maximize the success of the university's diverse student body. Ranked third nationally for advancing economic opportunity for low-income students, Fresno State is committed to serving an underrepresented student body and advancing social mobility. For the third consecutive year, Fresno State has placed among the top three best public universities for graduation-rate performance in U.S. News and World Report’s 2020 Best College rankings.

Reporting to the provost and vice president for academic affairs, the dean serves as the chief administrative and academic officer for the College of Health and Human Services. The dean will articulate and advance a shared vision for the college that promotes interprofessional and interdisciplinary collaborations, a culture of innovation, and service to the community, all of which are rooted in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Additionally, the dean is responsible for leadership of the college’s student success efforts, accreditation, academic program planning, assessment of curriculum and instruction, recruitment and evaluation of faculty and staff, professional development and research support, and budgeting and fiscal management. The dean represents the college and university in community, corporate, and professional organizations and agencies. The next dean will be expected to develop resources from internal and external connections that further the goals of the college and university. The dean will engage the faculty in developing innovative programs that build and integrate multiple strengths within the college while simultaneously partnering with the communities in the Central California region to address the critical issues in the health and human service environment that require continuing generations of well-prepared health and human service professionals.

The successful candidate will have a terminal degree in a health science or human services discipline or its equivalent, along with a demonstrated record of teaching, research, service, and/or experience meriting appointment as a tenured full professor in the college. The dean must exhibit solid management skills, effectiveness in resource acquisition and allocation, ability to build partnerships within the university and throughout the community, demonstrated experience with accreditation processes, and a clear understanding of regional, state, and national trends in health and human services as well as higher education.
