Employer Profile
The National Association for Kinesiology in Higher Education (NAKHE) is a 501(C)(3) not for profit organization. NAKHE strives to be an inclusive community of kinesiology professionals who nurture, mentor, and lead one another to greatness. The mission of NAKHE is to foster leadership in kinesiology administration and policy related to teaching, scholarship and service in higher education. NAKHE is devoted to promoting leadership through mentoring and networking among administrators, faculty, and students inclusive of disciplinary and institutional affiliation. Our diverse membership collaborates to initiate and cultivate progressive partnerships, scholarly papers, and projects that provide the structure and resources to guide the field of kinesiology.
THE HISTORY OF NAKHE:
NAKHE is the oldest Association in kinesiology dedicated to working with programs in higher education. Founded in 1897 as the National College Physical Education Association for Men (NCPEAM), the Association expanded in 1924 with the addition of the National Association for Physical Education of College Women (NAPECW). The two associations merged officially in 1960, and subsequently published the first issue of Quest, the field’s premier journal that focuses on the role of kinesiology in higher education. More recently, NAKHE began publishing the International Journal of Kinesiology in Higher Education, a forum for those in the field to share new, introductory, or small-scale research in addition to best practices in leadership, administration, and teaching. NAKHE’s annual conference continues the tradition initiated in 1897 of providing opportunities for kinesiology scholars to gather to discuss leadership in the field, share best practices, and train future kinesiology leaders.
