Job Description / Duties

Temple University invites applications and nominations for the Chair and Director, Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.

The Chair will oversee all aspects of the Department's operations, including academic programs, faculty development, research initiatives, and community engagement. They will foster a collaborative and inclusive culture that supports a multidisciplinary team of educators, researchers, clinicians, and support staff in delivering high-quality education and services. With an unwavering commitment to excellence, the Chair will drive innovation in teaching, research, and community partnerships, creating new opportunities to address health disparities and improve outcomes across diverse populations. As a key leader within the College of Public Health, the Chair will work closely with college leadership, institutional partners, and external organizations to align the Department's priorities with broader institutional goals. They will also represent the Department's interests to external stakeholders, building and maintaining strong partnerships to advance the Department's academic, clinical, and research missions. The ideal candidate will have deep experience leading change and development in matrixed academic institutions. They will be a visionary leader who is a skilled communicator, relationship-builder and change agent. This individual will have a passion for strategy and big-picture thinking, but also an appreciation for academic, clinical and research operations, finances and details.

Additional Information

The Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences is comprised of 12 programs including physical therapy, occupational therapy, athletic training, recreational therapy and health professions with a total enrollment of about 1,300 students. The vision is to establish an authentic transdisciplinary educational, practice, service and research environment that provides state of the art education through interprofessional teams that create new knowledge to advance health. In Fall 2025, the College of Public Health will move into a $125 million, 300,000+ square foot facility that provides new classrooms, common areas, similar labs and offices that enable collaboration and ill elevate the work underway.
