Ball State University
Ball State University seeks a tenure-line Professor or Associate Professor to serve as the next leader of our Clinical Exercise Physiology Program. Housed within Ball State’s historic Human Performance Laboratory in the School of Kinesiology, this program was one of the first clinically based academic programs in the country and continues to operate the nation’s longest running community-based physical fitness program. This program is also responsible for numerous important scholarly contributions that have advanced understanding of exercise, health, and disease, including serving as the foundational laboratory for the FRIEND Registry, and the database for the BALLST cohort. Ball State’s College of Health provides unique opportunities for inter-professional education and collaborative research partnerships are available in our School of Nursing, Departments of Biology, Chemistry, and Nutrition & Health Science, among others.
We provide top tier experiential learning opportunities for future clinical exercise professionals and deliver exercise testing and programming services to the surrounding communities. The program holds long-standing relationships with local hospital and other health care providers, offering applied educational and research opportunities for students and faculty.
The successful applicant will be an experienced scholar, educator, and administrator, who possesses the vision and skills needed to build on this program’s momentum and lead it into the next phase of its history. This individual will lead all aspects of the Clinical Exercise Physiology master’s degree program, the Clinical Exercise Physiology Exercise Testing Laboratory, and Adult Physical Fitness Program. The candidate will engage in scholarly activities in their area(s) of expertise and actively participate in University and professional service activities. Generous support will be provided in the form of graduate assistants, research space, and a start-up funding package.
The position will begin August 15, 2025, includes generous salary commensurate with experience, a full benefits package, and opportunities for summer employment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching (load is 3-6 semester hours or equivalent per academic semester)
• Teaching primarily graduate courses in Clinical Exercise Physiology.
• Advise graduate student thesis and dissertation projects.
Research (load is 3-6 semester hours or equivalent per academic semester)
• Perform scholarly work related to Clinical Exercise Physiology or associated field.
• Obtain extramural funding.
• Provide oversight for all research protocols affiliated with the Clinical Exercise Physiology Program and conducted in the Clinical Exercise Physiology Exercise Testing Laboratory.
Service
• Actively contribute to the intellectual and professional life at Ball State University.
• Actively contribute to professional associations related to Exercise Physiology.
Administration (load is 3-6 semester hours or equivalent per academic semester)
• Manage all academic aspects of the graduate program in Clinical Exercise Physiology.
• Manage all Program budgetary activities, including the general operating account, foundation accounts, and graduate assistant accounts.
• Supervise faculty and staff who manage the regular activities for the Adult Physical Fitness Program.
• Provide oversight for all activities for off-campus internship experiences for the Clinical Exercise Physiology Program graduate students and associated contracts.
• Manage all external contracts developed by the Clinical Exercise Physiology Program.
• Provide supervision and evaluation of the Administrative Coordinator of the Clinical Exercise Physiology
• Program and the Associate Director of the Adult Physical Fitness Program.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Earned doctorate in Exercise Physiology or closely related field from an accredited institution;
• Eligible to be considered for tenure in Ball State’s School of Kinesiology;
• At least 8 months (two semesters) of higher education teaching experience, either gained concurrently or at any time;
• Ability to teach courses in Clinical Exercise Physiology and Exercise Science
• Evidence of publishing scientific work in areas related to Exercise Physiology or Clinical Exercise Science, and presenting this work at scientific conferences;
• Ability to supervise exercise testing and clinical exercise programs.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in teaching courses in Clinical Exercise Physiology; experience in directing and/or supervising graduate-level academic programs; experience with exercise testing and/or administration of clinical exercise programs; experience in professional societies; experience in advising graduate student research activities.
