Job Description / Duties

The College of Health Professions invites applications for a tenure-track, 10-month Assistant Professor/Associate Professor position in the Physical Education/Teacher Education Program in the Department of Kinesiology beginning August 2020.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Applicants must possess a Doctoral degree in Physical Education/Teacher Education or related area. Applicants who are ABD are encouraged to apply but appointment will be at the instructor rank and all degree requirements must be completed by February 1, 2021.

Three or more years of experience teaching physical education at the K-12 level is required.

Evidence of scholarship agenda focused in an area related to Physical Education/Teacher Education and/or Health Education/Teacher Education is required.

Training and expertise to teach courses in physical education and/or health education and kinesiology related courses in health, wellness and fitness is required.

Preference will be given to candidates with an established record of excellence in teaching in higher education, potential for externally funded scholarship and research, experience with internship coordination and/or accreditation, and demonstrated success in working with diverse populations and students.

Candidates wishing to be considered for the rank of associate professor should have 6 years experience teaching in higher education or comparable qualifications, and demonstrate a clear line of scholarship with outcomes.

Primary responsibilities include: 1) TEACHING – provide high quality instruction in a variety of physical education/teacher education courses, advise and mentor students as they matriculate through the program and prepare to enter the profession; 2) SCHOLARSHIP – development/continuation of a focused area of scholarship that includes refereed publications, professional presentations, external funding, and involvement in scholarly projects with faculty and students; 3) SERVICE – active service participation at the Department, College, University, Profession and community levels.

The Department of Kinesiology, located within the College of Health Professions, has 35 full-time faculty and more than 1,400 students across the Physical Education/Teacher Education, Athletic Training, Sport Management, and Exercise Science undergraduate programs. The Physical Education/Teacher Education has approximately 120 majors. The Department is also responsible for oversight of the College of Health Professions Institute for Well-Being’s Wellness Center that serves over 300 members each year with its programs that support student education and community outreach.
