Job Description / Duties
Responsibilities
Key tasks may include (but are not limited to):
Teach courses in Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) for all Kinesiology undergraduate majors and teach the graduate level pedagogy course along with the graduate level Kinesiology Physical Activity Program (KPAP) seminar.
Assist with offering other courses in their expertise at the graduate and undergraduate level.
Carry out and disseminate research germane to their training and specialization.
Serve on graduate thesis committees.
Serve on University, College, and Department level committees.
Contribute to program and curriculum development.
Provide career advising and mentorship to undergraduate and graduate Kinesiology students.
Qualifications / Required Skills
Minimum Qualifications
An earned doctorate (e.g., Ph.D.) in Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) or a closely related field is required. ABD candidates will be considered but must have completed the doctorate at the time of appointment (August 2023). The candidate should have a demonstrated record of success in teaching and research commensurate with the qualifications for Assistant Professor at CSUSM. The candidate should also have evidence of potential for success in teaching movement pedagogy to undergraduate students. Experience in teaching, research, or other creative activities, and the ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with colleagues on an ethnically and culturally diverse campus is required. Candidate must have experience working with college-level students and practical experience in preparing manuscripts and grant proposals.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to teach courses in Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) for all Kinesiology undergraduate majors and teach the graduate level pedagogy course along with the graduate level Kinesiology Physical Activity Program (KPAP) seminar. Ability to collaborate with other faculty to Evidence of ability to develop and sustain an independent research program leading to original, peer-reviewed publications. Desired/Preferred Qualifications include the following:
Expertise in carrying out qualitative or post-positivist research
Expertise and ability to teach other kinesiology courses including but not limited to physical education for diverse populations, physical education for elementary teachers, physical education methods, research methods, and statistics.
Demonstrated intercultural competence with diverse groups in teaching, research, and/or service.
History of interdisciplinary collaboration and/or community-based research.
Professional affiliation with organizations such as SHAPE America, AERA, and NAHKE.
K-12 teaching experience is highly desirable.
