Job Description / Duties

The Department of Health and Human Performance seeks applicants for a full-time assistant professor, tenure-track position in the College of Education, Health, and Behavioral Sciences, specializing in Public Health. The position is open until filled, however, preference will be given to those applying prior to 1/30/2025.

Effective Date: August 2025

The Department of Health and Human Performance at the University of Tennessee at Martin invites applications for a 9-month tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. This is a full-time, tenure eligible faculty position, with an emphasis on teaching but requiring a balance of research and service. The course instruction will include a variety of modalities including online, hybrid, and/or face-to-face in accordance with program and departmental needs. Working collaboratively with faculty and staff within the program, department, and college, the department encourages its faculty to engage in interdisciplinary community-based partnerships and provide service to the institution, professional organizations, and the community. Additional responsibilities include academic advising, mentoring undergraduate student research, while also establishing a record of scholarship.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Required Qualifications:

Successful candidates will possess the following requirements:
• An earned doctoral degree in a health-related field (individuals who are all but dissertation [ABD] will be considered).
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across all levels of the university.
• Demonstrates ability to effectively collaborate and build consensus among students, faculty, and community partners.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Evidence of scholarship in health-related research such as peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations.
• Teaching Experience in an area of Epidemiology, Community Health Promotions, and Public Health Policy is strongly preferred.
• Experience in rural health or health policy.
• College or university-level teaching experience in public health.
• Work experience in a health-related field.
• Familiarity with a variety of instructional modalities, including online and hybrid instruction.
