POSITION DETAILS
USUAL DUTIES:
The Department of Kinesiology at Sam Houston State University (SHSU) invites applications from a diverse group of qualified applicants for an Assistant Professor (9-month appointment with summer possibilities) in Motor Behavior and Biomechanics beginning Fall 2023. The duties and responsibilities of this position include teaching, maintaining a research agenda in Motor Behavior and Biomechanics, mentoring students in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, and Human Performance and Wellness Management, performing university and professional service, and contributing to ongoing program evaluation and improvement in the undergraduate and graduate Kinesiology programs. Teaching assignments may include undergraduate (both face-to-face and online) and graduate (online) coursework.
The major responsibilities will include teaching and researching in Motor Behavior and Biomechanics within the undergraduate Kinesiology, Clinical Exercise Science, and Human Performance and Wellness Management programs, and the graduate Kinesiology – Sport and Human Performance program.
The successful candidate will serve as the Lab Director for the Biomechanics/Motor Behavior lab. This lab is approximately 2000 sq. ft., with 13.5 foot ceilings, a Vicon 12 optical camera system, Biodex dynamometer with attachments, Delsys Bagnoli-8 EMG System, Anthropometry Set, Tekscan F-Scan System, Insole Sensors, AMTI AccuPower Force Platform (for jumping and dynamic movements), AMTI AccuSway Force Platform (for gait), Tekscan 4 tile Strideway gait analysis system, Tendo Control System, pursuit rotor, reaction timer, card sorter, 2 Oculus headsets, driving simulator, wooden platform, and concrete floors with rubber flooring. The Department of Kinesiology is located on the main campus in Huntsville, in the newly renovated first floor of the Lee Drain Building and inhabits 20,000 sq. ft. of space which includes all of the labs and faculty offices (Watch this video for a virtual tour https://youtu.be/-nCkTSgvI4Y).

Qualifications / Required Skills
DEGREE REQUIRMENTS:
Earned Doctorate in Kinesiology, Motor Behavior, Biomechanics, Exercise Science, or related discipline from an accredited institution. ABD candidates must graduate before start date (August 2023).
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• Teaching experience in motor learning, biomechanics, and/or motor control
• A demonstrated record of research and scholarship in motor learning, biomechanics, and/or motor control
• Service commensurate with appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor
OTHER REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:
Preferred requirements
• Use of technology in instruction, and experience with distance/online education is preferred.
• Experience with a variety of laboratory techniques, such as motion capture, force plates, pressure mats, EMG, isokinetic testing, DeXA, balance testing, reaction time, and/or virtual reality is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with diverse populations is preferred.
• Experience mentoring students with scholarship/research projects preferred.
• Membership and involvement in professional organizations is preferred (e.g., NASPSPA, ISB, ASB, CSB, ACSM, SFN, etc.)

LOCATION
There are multiple options for places to live near our multiple campuses. Sam Houston’s main campus is located in Huntsville. The city of Huntsville is nestled in the East Texas Piney Woods and is centrally located on a direct route between Houston and Dallas. With a population of roughly 40,000 (excluding SHSU), Huntsville offers the simplicity of small-town life and easy access to surrounding larger cities including Conroe (where the College of Osteopathic Medicine is located), The Woodlands (where the School of Nursing and The Woodlands Center is located), and Bryan/College Station.
