Job Description / Duties
The College of Health Professions invites applications for two tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professors in the Department of Kinesiology beginning August 2024. One position will be hired based on research and teaching expertise in sport governance and sport-related management including sport facilities and events; the other position will be hired based on expertise in sport and human performance, including coaching, leadership, and recreation coordination and programming. Candidates with expertise in both areas and may expand beyond single disciplinary boundaries are highly valued and encouraged to apply
Primary responsibilities include: 1) Teaching – research active instructors teach 6 units over a 9- month academic year in a highly diverse, student-centered program; provide high quality instruction in a variety of kinesiology courses; advise and mentor students as they matriculate through the program and prepare to enter the profession; 2) Scholarship – development/continuation of a focused area of scholarship that includes refereed publications, professional presentations, external funding, and involvement in scholarly projects with faculty and students; 3) Service – active service participation at the department, college, university, profession and community levels.
Qualifications / Required Skills
Research doctoral degree in a Kinesiology-related field (e.g. Health and Human Performance, Recreation, Sport Leadership, Sport Management). ABD applicants considered, but appointment will be at the Instructor rank and all degree requirements must be completed by February 1, 2025. Evidence of scholarship agenda focused in an area related to: sport governance, sport facility and event management; sport and human performance, coaching, leadership, and recreation. Training and expertise to teach Kinesiology courses to diverse learners in the Sport Management and/or Fitness and Wellness Leadership programs.
