Job Description / Duties

Teach undergraduate and graduate students, conduct scholarly work and serve the profession, community, university, college, department and students. The Department of Exercise Science provides undergraduate concentrations in fitness and wellness, physical education teacher licensure, pre-athletic training, pre-occupational therapy, pre-physical therapy, pre-physician assistant, sport administration, exercise physiology, and sport performance. Master of Arts concentrations are offered in the online format in adapted physical education, elementary/middle physical education, lifetime wellness and sport management. The Educational Specialist concentration in Exercise Science is housed in the department of Curriculum and Instruction with concentration classes taught by Exercise Science graduate faculty. Finally, Exercise Science graduate faculty teach classes and serve on committees in the Health Behavior and Wellness Education Ph.D. concentration which is part of the Exceptional Learning Ph.D. program in the College of Education.

Tennessee Technological University is searching for a tenure-track assistant professor in the Exercise Science department. The successful candidate will be required to teach undergraduate classes that will include but not limited to Exercise Physiology, Training for Performance, Issues in Sport Performance, Performance/Recovery in Sport, Strength and Conditioning, and Sport Science and Performance. Additionally, graduate classes that may include but not limited to Advanced Exercise Physiology, Recovery and Sport Performance and Research Methods in Sport Performance and/or Exercise Science. Evaluate current programs of study and make recommendations for updates and changes, develop classes and curriculum in the department, supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, support students in research, serve students, the department, college and university in a supporting and professional manner, provide leadership in and of the profession of Sport Performance and Exercise Physiology, develop a research agenda and collaborate with departmental and university faculty in research and grant writing to pursue external funding, and serve on departmental, college and university committees. This is a full-time, nine-month position with potential for summer teaching.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Minimum Qualifications:
An earned Doctorate degree in Sport Performance, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics or closely related field from an accredited university. Documented minimum 3 years full-time teaching experience in Sport Performance, Exercise Physiology, and/or Biomechanics at the undergraduate level and/or graduate level as a fully credentialed instructor. Evidence of teaching excellence. Record of scholarly work including national presentations and/or peer reviewed publications. Basic understanding of teaching using on-line delivery.

Preferred Qualifications:
Documented experience in managing Exercise Physiology lab, Sports Performance lab, and/or Biomechanics lab and providing quality lab experiences for students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Documented experience in teaching and managing undergraduate and graduate courses in the online format using D2L or other current on-line delivery system. Experience in course development. Documented evidence of grant procurement and sponsored research. Documented evidence of quality teaching, research and service in the profession. Documented experience with research into applications of AI and/or experience integrating AI into instruction.
