The School of Kinesiology in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota seeks to fill a tenured-tenure track assistant professor position in exercise physiology. The successful candidate will have education, expertise, and research accomplishments in integrative exercise physiology, with broad specialization in the biology/physiology of aging, cardiovascular, respiratory, nutrition, autonomic control, and/or physiology of bone. The candidate will join the current exercise physiology faculty, who have expertise in body composition, metabolism, skeletal muscle physiology, endurance exercise training and performance; and an environment with extramural grants and robust internal and external sales program. The candidate will join the broader department committed to faculty development and mentoring in research, teaching, and service. The successful candidate will be able to align with and utilize various robust university research centers and cores, such as Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain, Center for Women's Health Research, Supercomputing Institute, Clinical and Translational Science Institute, Center for Magnetic Resonance Research, for example, across the University. The candidate would have a strong commitment to mentoring and training graduate students for students from diverse backgrounds.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will be responsible for:
+ Establishing and maintaining a nationally and internationally recognized independent research program in area of expertise
+ Securing internal and external funding for research agenda related to area of expertise
+ Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and developing curriculum in areas of expertise within integrative/exercise physiology
+ Recruiting, supervising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in integrative/exercise physiology
+ Disseminating research through publications and presentations in the scientific community
+ Providing service to the school, university, community, and profession
Qualifications / Required Skills
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ An earned doctorate, Ph.D. preferred, in Kinesiology, Physiology, Integrative Physiology, Biology or a closely related field with an emphasis in exercise physiology.
+ Evidence of a commitment to multicultural perspectives to the practice of integrative/exercise physiology.
+ Record of publication and research productivity in integrative/exercise physiology.
+ Evidence of a national and international scholarly reputation in integrative exercise physiology.
+ Evidence of experience and effective teaching skills for graduate instruction related to integrative/exercise physiology.
+ Research expertise in integrative human or animal exercise physiology is essential
+ Evidence of attention to diverse identities in teaching or professional experience, and the commitment to support the University’s work in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
+ Ability to collaborate effectively with people from a variety of communities, backgrounds, and identities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Strong record of teaching and advising of graduate and/or undergraduate students
+ Evidence of success in contributing to academic program development at the graduate level
+ Postdoctoral research in area of scientific expertise
+ Demonstration of current extramural grant support
+ Evidence of mentoring of graduate students
