Job Description / Duties

The specific responsibilities for this position include:

- Engaging in a consistent and focused line of research funded by receiving external grants/contracts.
- Teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level, including adapted Physical Education (APE)/Physical Activity (APA) and sport, motor development and motor learning courses, and therapeutic recreation to students majoring in physical education and kinesiology (licensure and non-licensure), sport coaching, and recreation.
- Coordinate and supervise APA practicum/experiences including PK-12 settings or community PA programs.
- Mentoring graduate student research through chairing doctoral committees and committee membership.
- Providing service to the program, school, college, and profession.
Contribute to program evaluation, accreditation, and teaching performance assessment.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Must have an earned doctoral degree in adapted physical education, adapted physical activity or a closely related area such as kinesiology or therapeutic rehabilitation. ABDs will be considered by terminal degree must be conferred by August 11, 2023. Applicants must demonstrate a clear research agenda, evidence of conducting and publishing high-quality research, and the ability to seek, write, submit and secure external funding to support their research. Applicants need to provide evidence of a minimum of one year of professional work experience in an APE/APA setting and teaching at the college level. Applicants must be able to mentor undergraduate and graduate students as well as effectively teach undergraduate and graduate level courses, such as adapted physical education/physical activity and sport, motor development and motor learning, and/or therapeutic recreation. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to teach in person (e.g., through a teaching certificate, a record of guest lectures, an instructor of record, and/or a record of teaching assistantship) as well as in an online modality. Applicants must have the ability to coordinate and supervise APE/APA practicum experiences including PK-12 settings or community PA programs and demonstrate a history of engagement in service.

Additional Information

Appointment

August 11, 2023. Faculty hired at the Assistant Professor level will be in a position that is promotable and tenurable and will have an annual nine-month appointment. Summer teaching opportunities may be available.
