Job Description / Duties

Position Description-Reporting to the Chair of the Department, the Lecturer position requires a master’s degree and carries responsibilities in the areas of teaching, professional development, and service. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in the Physical Activity Lifestyle Program and/or the Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology. Teaching will include multiple two credit hour concepts of health and physical activity courses and potentially other health sciences and kinesiology courses. This candidate will be the Armstrong Campus Coordinator and oversee delivery of curriculum and the training and supervision of graduate teaching assistants and part-time faculty. In addition, the candidate will maintain university partnerships, promote and sustain interdisciplinary dialogue and service, hold membership in professional associations, serve on committees, and participate in official activities at the program, departmental, college, and university levels. The position is a 10-month, non-tenure track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Required Qualifications:
• Earned master’s degree or higher in Physical Education, Exercise Science, or a closely related field by August 1, 2020;
• Willingness to engage in institutional student success initiatives;
• Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development; and
• Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with online teaching;
• Experience teaching at the university level; and/or
• Certification in a relevant area (i.e., Exercise Science, Strength and Conditioning, Athletic Training)

Georgia Southern University was founded in 1906 as a school for teaching modern agricultural production techniques and homemaking skills to rural school children. Within this setting, the Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology is a dynamic and growing unit of over 60 faculty and staff serving over 2,000 majors enrolled in a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs. The department is committed to the promotion of health and wellness within individuals, families, and communities. The Physical Activity Lifestyle (PAL) Program promotes the fundamental concepts associated with wellness throughout the lifespan. Students will gain an understanding of wellness, healthy lifestyles, and avoidance of harmful habits. The person filling this position will have a primary role in fulfilling this mission on the Armstrong campus.
