Job Description / Duties

Faculty Position: The University of Iowa, Department of Health and Human Physiology, Health and Physical Activity Skills Program (HPAS): Assistant in Instruction.

The non-tenure track position is for the academic year 2019-2020, renewable for a total of three years (2020-2022) and renewable thereafter in three year increments pending collegiate approval and demonstrated excellence in teaching. Duties of this position include teaching a variety of physical activity skills courses (examples include self-defense, core strengthening, flexibility, racquetball, badminton, table tennis); developing and revising curriculum for HPAS courses, and developing new HPAS courses.

Screening of applications begins in late April and continues until the position is filled.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Required:
BA/BS degree in a field related to Recreation and Sport Studies, Health Promotion, Physical Education, or Health and Human Physiology.

Experience in teaching or leading higher education physical activity skills, physical education, or sport skills/fitness programs, excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as excellent time management and organizational skills.

CPR/AED certification required before the first day of class.

Desired:
Master’s degree in a related area, or an equivalent combination of relevant education, certifications, and work experience. American College of Sports Medicine, National Strength and Conditioning Association, or equivalent certification.
