President's Message

Welcome to the National Association for Kinesiology in Higher Education! Five years ago, at the recommendation of a colleague, I attended my first conference, and I knew I had found something special. NAKHE is a unique organization in the kinesiology and sports science disciplines, as it emphasizes higher education leadership within an interdisciplinary profession. Our members represent the entire spectrum of sport and physical education/exercise/activity professions. Our vision is to be an inclusive community of kinesiology professionals who nurture, mentor, and lead one another. “Where Scholars Come to Lead” is not just a slogan.

Membership in NAKHE has a lot to offer. Aside from the many networking opportunities that arise, members can participate in the annual January conference, annual summer Leadership Development Workshop (LDW), and other webinars and workshops hosted throughout the year. Our Department Head Certification Training (DHCT) is a bi-annual opportunity to train and prepare for academic leadership. We offer three different grants as well as scholarships for graduate students. Members receive hard copies of our two rapidly growing journals, Quest and International Journal of Kinesiology in Higher Education (IJKHE), as well as free access to Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport (RQES)

“Why didn’t I know about this organization sooner?” is a question I asked once and continue to hear. Our membership has been growing over the past several years, and I encourage you to find out for yourself why.
