Job Description / Duties

The College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences (CPASS) at West Virginia University is seeking applicants for a Teaching Assistant Professor in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Health and Well-being for the Morgantown campus to begin August 2020. Our College serves approximately 1,100 students across 15 degree programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. Our mission focuses on conducting and disseminating high-quality research, preparing students to be leaders and innovators in their fields, and enhancing the quality of life for the residents of our state through outreach efforts. We are looking for a highly qualified individual who can contribute to this mission by working with other faculty, learners, and community partners in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Duties for the ideal candidate are to effectively teach in-person and online courses in the Health and Well-being major. Courses could include: Introduction to Health Promotion Profession, Enhancing Well-being, Fitness and Wellness, Human Anatomy, Principles of Human Movement, Motor Development, and Lifestyle and Weight Management. Candidate will be expected to assist with the administration of a new major including establishing practicum/internship sites, and to provide service to the department, college, and profession. This position is a non-tenure track teaching position, with no research component.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications that must be met by time of appointment.

  • An earned doctoral degree in Kinesiology with a specialization in Health and Well-being or a closely related area at time of appointment OR a master’s degree in Kinesiology with a specialization in Health and Well-being or a closely related area and extensive industry experience (at least three years) in the health promotion profession
  • Evidence of innovative and effective teaching with adult learners via in-person and online formats
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership to a new major
  • Evidence of NCHEC Community Health Education Certification or similar certification
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
