Job Description / Duties

The Department of Health and Human Performance at the University of Tennessee at Martin seeks candidates for a full-time assistant professor, tenure-track position. The position is a 9-month appointment. The candidate will teach undergraduate courses in exercise science (e.g., exercise physiology, exercise testing and prescription, applied human movement, and principles of fitness) and potentially online graduate courses in sport coaching and performance (e.g., applied sport physiology, strength and conditioning, and applied research in sport science). Experience with distance learning or online teaching is beneficial. Additional responsibilities include academic advising, mentoring undergraduate student research, and service to the department, university, and profession, while also establishing a record of scholarship.

Qualifications / Required Skills

To be recommended for appointment, the candidate shall have earned a Doctorate in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Sport Science, or a highly related discipline. ABD candidates will be considered if the pending degree will be confirmed within the academic year of hire. The primary focus at the University of Tennessee at Martin is teaching; however, scholarship and service are valued in the annual review. The candidate must show evidence of working collaboratively within a department or across disciplines. Experience with student academic advising or mentoring will be considered.

Although the primary focus at the University of Tennessee at Martin is teaching, a record of published research and scholarly conference presentations is preferred. A candidate with experience working in sport performance is a plus. Additionally, if the candidate has or has experience with NSCA, ACSM certifications, those will be considered. Service activities such as that with a professional committee, a university committee, sponsoring an academic club, or community service is highly recommended.
