Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology, the Visiting Instructor of Coaching Education position requires teaching some of the following courses in the undergraduate Coaching Minor: Principles of Coaching, Sport Conditioning Lab, Coaching Baseball/Softball, Coaching Football, Coaching Olympic Sports, Psychology of Coaching, Principles of Officiating, and Coaching Practicum. If the successful candidate has a doctoral degree in Coaching Education or a closely related discipline, the candidate may also teach some of the following courses in the graduate Coaching Education concentration: Sport Coaching Pedagogy, Research Methods, Administrative Issues in Coaching, and Practical Applications of Human Performance. The primary focus of the position will be teaching five courses, or the equivalent of 15 semester hours, each semester. This is a 10-month appointment (August 2023 – May 2024), and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. All visiting instructor positions are one-year non-tenure track appointments.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Required Qualifications:
• Earned master’s degree* in Coaching Education or a closely related discipline by August 1, 2023 with 18 graduate semester hours in Coaching Education or a closely related field.
• Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
• Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.

*Note: An earned doctorate in Coaching Education or a closely related discipline will be required to teach courses in the graduate Coaching Education program.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience teaching college/university courses in Coaching Education.
• High school and/or college coaching experience.
• Potential for online teaching.

Conditions of Employment:
• Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution;
• All work (with limited exceptions such as research and study abroad and outside activities such as grading and email correspondence) for Georgia Southern University must be completed while the employee is physically present in the state of Georgia, unless specifically authorized by the university for a specific purpose and limited period of time within current policy;
• Faculty are expected to contribute to the vibrant university community by engaging students, participating in events, and performing other responsibilities on-campus;
• Faculty may be required to teach, conduct research, or perform service duties on any of the three campuses. Georgia Southern provides accessible transportation options between campuses.

This position will fill teaching needs within the Coaching Education program.
