Proposal for Distinguished Teaching Award

Increase the membership of committee to 4 voting members.

Action Required by Board:
(Old Business from April 05 Meeting) Motion 6: that the "Distinguished Teaching Award" be approved as the 4th award for professionals. By B. Mitchell; no second needed. Motion to postpone discussion of the Distinguished Teaching Award until the January BOD meeting. By R. Oates; seconded by J. Rintala. Approved.

New Business:

Motion #1 - Limit the number of applications by any one individual nominated for distinguished awards to one.
In the event an individual is nominated for more than one award, the Committee Chair will ask the individual to choose the award for which materials will be presented to the Committee for consideration.

Motion #2 - Clarify the role of the Awards Committee Chairperson during the Awards Ceremony as the individual who oversees the ceremony and provides introductory remarks.
The Awards Committee Chairperson oversees the Awards Ceremony and gives introductory remarks. The immediate past award winners present the awards.

Motion #3 - Make editorial (non-substantive) changes to the descriptions of each of the awards to improve clarity and minimize confusion.

Motion #4 - Add a 5 year minimum continuous membership criterion to the qualifications for the Distinguished Scholar Award.

Motion #6 - Remove ambiguity from the current statement regarding qualifications for the Distinguished Scholar Award by specifying that the applicant must demonstrate achievements in more than one area versus achievement in "any" area as it now states.
